Christine and Joey got married at my favorite Downtown Pensacola wedding venue: 5Eleven Palafox. There’s something truly magical about this space – the historic nature, the downright amazing light regardless of the time of day, and the proximity to the water for beautiful bride & groom portraits are just a handful of the perks to weddings here.
Christine and Joey met through a series of missed opportunities. As I listened to their story last spring it was clear that these two were destined to be together and nothing was going to prevent that. Both teachers, they met at a job fair, and didn’t exchange numbers. They ran into each other again at orientation, and didn’t exchange numbers. Between another chance encounter, a mutual teacher friend, and Joey doing some serious digging to find her email, the two finally found out they both like to eat dinner and decided to do it together. The two kicked off what is only just the beginning of their epic love story, with a marathon 3 hour dinner at Hopjacks downtown learning each other’s ins and outs.
Getting to be a part of their wedding day was a dream – these two were phenomenal to work with and chose some of my favorite vendors to help make their day perfect.
Christine and Joey, thank you so much for including me as part of your wedding day. It was truly a blessing and I can’t wait to share the remainder of your images with you.
But for now, a preview, of the magic that was Christine and Joey’s wedding day which started at a beautiful AirBnB in historic downtown Pensacola off Government St.
Christine and Joey’s love for Pensacola showed through even the smallest details of their day. Christine’s family rented a beautiful AirBnB on Government Street, in the heart of historic Pensacola, and less than 5 minutes from their venue at 5Eleven Palafox.
Joey got ready across the street from the venue at the new Holiday Inn Express.
The two chose to exchange gifts on their wedding day and I have to admit, it’s one of my favorite parts of the day, especially if you’re not planning to do a first look. It’s an opportunity to clear the room, sit in the moment, and connect with each other from a distance. I hugely support anything like this that will allow you to slow down and take in the moment.
Christine chose to get into her dress with just her mom for something a little more sentimental and did a first look with her bridesmaids afterward.
When they arrived at the ceremony, all the ladies crowded together with Christine while her grandmother prayed over Christine and Joey and the start of their marriage. Just thinking about this moment brings tears to my eyes – it was such a special moment and a perfect way to start the ceremony.
The florals and drapery around the arbor by Supposey were gorgeous and brought in the perfect touch of color and class to their courtyard ceremony.
Joey’s first sight of Christine was what everyone has ever dreamed of. Absolute joy and excitement, and a little watery around the eyes! Me too, Joey. Me too.
If you’re not this excited and ready to celebrate after you married your soul mate, you’re doing it wrong. These two were the definition of “the happy couple” and weren’t afraid to share it with the world!
Bride & Groom Portraits
The proximity of 5Eleven and the Pensacola Bay makes for a great stroll down South Palafox for some beautiful bride and groom portraits. These two braved the crazy wind and the looming incoming fog for some really sweet moments together in front of the camera.
Simple and elegant with lots of greenery may be my favorite tablescape design and of course, Chloe didn’t disappoint.
Joey and Christine had a touching first dance, singing to each other Beyond by Leon Bridges. I’d like to take a minute and give these two some mad props for choosing a song I’ve not only never heard as a first dance, but as an amazing first dance song. The lyrics are some of the sweetest and watching these two swing around the dance floor singing those words to each other gave me more feelings than I usually like to allow myself on a wedding day.
Their dances with their parents were just as touching: Christine and her Dad danced to Butterfly Kisses and Joey and his mom to Blackbird.
We all ventured outside for some sweet, hilarious, and encouraging toasts from a handful of the amazing people Joey and Christine have surrounded themselves with: Christine’s Maid of Honor, Olivia, Joey’s Best Man, Tyler, Christine’s Dad and Christine’s Aunt Bonnie.
After toasts and some amazing cake and deserts, we were off to the dance party inside with Matt from Powell Entertainment and his mad DJ skills. A surprise set by Joey and his bandmates made for a great interlude to the night and the party continued.
The fog settled in later in the evening and Christine and Joey were thrilled to come hang out with us and play in the fog.
The night ended with a beautiful sparkler exit on to Palafox Street with all of their friends and family heading off to their afterparty downtown.
Congratulations, Christine and Joey. It was an absolute joy to work with you and I can’t wait to see how you two grow your lives together. ❤️
